That adds up to 400GB of data capable of being stored on a single disc.

Blu-ray comes in single layer (25GB) and dual-layer (50GB) flavors. Pioneer does say that because the lens specification for reading ...

The broadband crunch

Will increasing demand for bandwidth-hungry online services mean an internet slow-down?
An 'exabyte' is a lot of data. It is 1.074 billion gigabytes of data, to be exact. It would take 14 million laptops like mine to store an exabyte. Two exabytes equals the total volume of information generated back in 1999. Today, the internet is handling one exabyte of data every single hour.

The sheer size of the internet, not to mention seemingly universal access to it, makes it easy to forget how young the net really is.

Many of us are now so familiar with – and reliant on – this technology that it’s hard to believe it is such a recent development, but it has been with us for a mere blink of an eye in historical terms: speedy commercial access ...

Big Brother Awards - Google Won Big

Google

Lifetime Menace - Prix Spécial du Jury: Google Inc. wins for its overwhelming capacity to retain personal data of internet users, for having been rated the "worst company" among worldwide Internet groups surveyed last year by Privacy International, for not compling to the EU Data Protection directives, and for filtering search results for political reasons. Google founders Larry Page and Steve Brin, as well as Global Privacy Officer Peter Fleischer, were named for their personnal contribution. French Ministry of Education came second, for its database "base élèves" aimed at registering primary schools pupils (from 3 to 10 years old), and the Ministry of Culture and Communication came 3rd for its repeated laws and decrees aiming to filter the internet, organise global monitoring of internet users without court warrants, and being complacent to the music and film industry ...

Acer reveals second generation Blu-ray Gemstone Blue laptop

acer-blue
Now I am definitely one for great looking laptops especially great looking laptops with top performance. Well Acer reveals their latest second generation Gemstone Blue laptop.

The brand new launch of a brand new laptop really does put a smile on my face; the new unveiling of the Gemstone Blue is a great move for Acer. These laptops come in 16 and 18.4-inch 16:9 1080p screen versions plus features include 1.5GHz Penryn processors, Blu-ray drives, 512MB NVIDIA 9650m GS graphics and Acer’s new CineReal system.

The graphics chip is at the center of Acer’s new CineReal system which basically means it offloads BD playback to the GPU and provides Dolby headphone output (and real 5.1 sound on the bigger model).

There is one little downside and that is these laptops only have around 2.5 hours ...
